In the same way that the unsung note can say a lot, a few well-chosen words can make a meal for the imagination. 'The Punishment Book' is consumed in a few seconds, but the after-dinner contemplation lasts much longer.

This is what the mini-saga format is about: an on-topic story with a beginning, a middle, an end, and even suspense thrown in. I feel like I've read a novel!

One very clever way of making this brutally short format work is to find an unconventional way of telling the story that's both plausible and complete. The punishment book is - like a very very compressed journal - a perfect model. This is both story and *gag*, and both work perfectly. It's funny, and a complete little story, and also very evocative. The final reversal isn't a new one, but it fits just right. (Pablo)
