Welcome to the 2005 Soc.Sexuality.Spanking
Summer Short Story Contest

* * * * * * * *

The summer Short Story Contest (SSC) is a long-standing tradition on soc.sexuality.spanking (SSS) and alt.sex.spanking (ASS) before it.  The first SSC was started in 1994 on ASS by Duchin.  In Internet terms that is practically forever.

Hi everyone,

I have taken on the SSC 2005 summer short story contest.  Due to the time constraints of my taking on the contest and its normal starting time, I have decided to move the start date to July 1 and run it through September 30 with the results being released in November.

Please be advised each submitter must have copyright rights so no one must use these stories without permission of the author.  Entry into the contest requires the granting of a non-exclusive licence to have their entries archived on the SSS site and its successors.

All stories entered into the contest must be no longer than five hundred words in length.  A few more words are ok but please try not to have too many words over the allotted limit.

To enter your wonderful stories please E-mail entries to:  XXXX   One click should get you a double addressed e-mail form.

The subject of the e-mail should include:  SSC2005 [category] [title].

The body should include the [category] [title] [word count] [story].  Please include explanatory notes for stuff out of the ordinary such why it is edge or not-my-kink.  This may precede or follow the story so as not to spoil it.

The contest is for fun and there are not any monetary prizes.  However the winners in each category along with those who are awarded the "special awards" will be announced on the SSS website and the NG for all of us to admire and give praise.

The last update to the Rules was on October 6.

RULES

You may enter as many stories as you like, however please keep in mind that the last week of the contest I and the readers will be pushing to make sure all the reviews are done so I will be placing a limit of five stories to be entered per person that week.  Any other week you are welcome and are encouraged to enter LOTS.  Entries must be emailed to me, Mary, and posted to SSS at these two addresses: XXXX in the above mentioned format.  Clicking on the link should get you an email composition window with both addresses set.  Please do not send them in any other language other than English this non-techy chickie has a hard enough time with the 'puter.

All entries must be original for this contest and not have been previous posted to sss or any previous summer short story contest.  They may have appeared elsewhere, however.

Also please creat your stories in Notepad or a similar program such as that which offers plain text, i.e., a proper word processor which has no special characters or control characters, as it will make the jobs of our reader/reviews and our archiver much easier and thus the contest will go a lot smoother.  In particular, please do not, for example, send them using Microsoft Word *.doc format.  Note that stuff posted in word processor format (*.doc and *.wpd) are displayed badly in the newsgroup and the reviewers' copies.

Your stories will than be sent out to three readers for review and comments.  During the contest YLee (big wave of thanks) will be placing the stories on the website as they come in to me so everyone will be able to read them just as quickly as they want to.

CATEGORIES

Here are the categories for this year's contest.  When you enter a story, choose the category that you'd like it to be entered in, and identify the category clearly when you post, preferably in the Subject: line.

  1. ADULT  A story in which the main characters are all adults.
  2. AGE PLAY  A story where at least one character pretends that he/she is other than his/her real age.  The most obvious one is where an adult plays a naughty school kid and an another is kids playing house (e.g., "I'll be the daddy -- who spanks you.").
  3. CHILD   A story where the major characters (some if not all) are not adults.  E.g., parental and kids playing house.
  4. EDGE  A story that you feel would push the boundaries of your kink.  Please include a note as to why this is.  The note is not part of the word limit.
  5. HISTORIC  A story written about the grander times of the past.
  6. MINI SAGA  An extremely short story of 50 ± 2 words.
  7. MISSING SCENE  A fun one for all of those times when you watched a movie or TV program or even read a book and thought gee what he/she really needs right now is good spanking… so tell us about it.
  8. NOT MY KINK  A story where this is just that not what you usually write about.
  9. SCHOOL  A story of some importance with regards to a school experience, but it doesn't have to take place at a boarding school.
  10. SCIENCE FICTION  A story based totally on the realm of fake science. <lol>  Think StarTrek and the likes of that when I say SciFi for a quick reference.
  11. STRANGE PLACES  A story based on a spanking taking place in an unusual time and place combination.  Some ingenuity is required here.  Bizarre, unusual, weird, quaint, far-fetched, idiosyncratic are all terms that come to mind.  Something that was commonplace long ago or will be in the future very well might a 'strange place' when set in present times.  Henry IV spanking Prince Hal in the throne room sounds historic but Princes Diana doing it to Prince William could be strange. Ensign Crusher getting it on the holodeck would be SciFi but Captain Picard yanking down the lad's britches on the bridge deck would be very strange indeed.  Be creative!
  12. FESTIVAL  This is an extra, after the fact category. This was added because several people failed to follow the rules in someway.  When possible they were asked to corrected the issue but did not.  Rather than discarding their entries, they were put into to this category where they are archived but not otherwise dealt with such as being reviewed.

HOW TO ENTER A STORY

Please read carefully!

Sorry, the submission deadline has past for SSC2005.

  1. Write the story!  (That's the hard part.)  Follow the rules above.
  2. Mark the entry clearly with the category you've chosen to enter it in.  Please choose just one category.  Many entries would probably fit in several different categories.  Choose the one that you think it best fits.
  3. Post the story to soc.sexuality.spanking.  Make sure to:
    1. The subject of the e-mail should include:  SSC2005 [category] [title].  The body should include the [category] [title] [word count] [story].  Please include explanatory notes for stuff out of the ordinary such why it is edge or not-my-kink.  This may precede or follow the story so as not to spoil it.
    2. Post in plain text.  If you use a word processor with a proprietary format, like MS Word, save as plain text before you post.  Please also avoid using attachments and avoid posting in HTML if you can.  Plain text will be easier for everyone to read.
    3. Read the information on the archive (below) and include any needed formatting instructions to the archivist.
    4. Post the story by e-mail by sending it to to: XXXX One click should get you a double addressed e-mail composition window.
  4. Wait for responses to the entry.  With luck, lots of positive responses :-)  Oh, and get to work writing the next story.

ARCHIVING

The Archivist, Y. Lee Coyote, in order to have a uniform appearance of the entries will apply the following rules to all entries:

  1. Quotes (single and double) remain if they are talk.
  2. Words inside single quotes and/or underlines get converted to italics
  3. Words inside asterisks get converted to bold.
  4. Dashes are two hyphens.
  5. Ellipsis are "..." in the middle and "...." at the end of sentence.
  6. Double angle brackets will be converted to guillemets (those neat little double angles used in French and Russian).
  7. Paragraphs are indicated with double space rather than indents as that is the natural way in HTML.
  8. Comments may either precede the title or follow the story end.
  9. The author's name and e-mail will appear in plain text if that is the way it appeared in the SSS post.  It also appears in the meta information in the header and available to search engines.
  10. The name for copyright notice will be the 'nick' if there is one.

Instructions to the Archivist may be in the post and will be honored as best as possible.

Changes/corrections to archive may be requested by e-mail to Y. Lee Coyote.  Please indicate the entry number, the paragraph number, the 'current' and the 'replacement'.  Don't send the entire post as I won't be able to find the change.
