The last update to the Rules was on June 8.

RULES

  1. The contest will begin on June 1st 12:00am EDT and will run through September 1st 11:59pm EDT.

  2. All stories should be sent to BOTH of the following two addresses:
SSC2006A (at) aol (dot) com & post (at) socsexualityspanking (dot) org.    Submit and post
This will post them AND submit them to the contest.  If we do not receive your entry in e-mail it will not be counted.  Don't use the doubly addressed e-mail for question as they will be posted.  See the last section for questions and volunteering.

  3. Stories will be limited to 500 words (+ 5 words maximum) not counting titles, disclaimers, or author's notes, except in the category of mini-saga where the word limit will be 50 (+ 5 words maximum).

  4. When submitting stories please put SSC2006, the category, and then the title in the subject heading.  Example:  SSC2006 {Adult} Spanking FriendsThis will allow people to go straight to the contest entries to read them, or avoid them if they are reviewers who don't want to know the authors of stories that they may be assigned.
At times a story will be acceptable in more than one category so it will be your choice where to submit it.  If we feel your story is not acceptable in the category you've chosen, we will ask you to resubmit it in another category.

  5. Writers will be limited to entering 40 stories total during the contest, and only 4 stories will be accepted from each author after August 22nd (the final 10 days).
Entries will be counted by author, not by e-mail addresses.  Submitting stories under multiple e-mail addresses with the intent of sneaking more stories into the contest is, of course, not allowed.  Submitting stories through alternate e-mail addresses for other purposes is perfectly fine as long as the author doesn't go over the limit.

  6. Only one story per post please, even if there are several short stories to go in the same category.  They may be assigned to different reviewers so they need to arrive in separate e-mails.

  7. EVERYBODY is welcome to enter the contest; that includes reviewers and administrating volunteers.  Remember, this is for fun, and it is not our intention to exclude anyone.  Obviously people will not review or rate their own work to ensure fairness.

  8. Stories should be new and will not have been posted before.  This does not include stories which may have been shared on private lists.  You may only submit stories for which you hold the copyright or have the owner's permission.  Entry grants a non-exclusive, no fee license for archiving on the SSS website and its successors.
If you wish to have your story posted on SSS anonymously you may submit to just SSC2006A (at) aol (dot) com  Write to Organizers and we will post for you.  Please explain that you want us to post it for you.

  9. This is a contest for spanking stories, emphasis on spanking (which of course includes implements).  There are many other kinks and interests that intersect and can be included, such as: bondage, ageplay, piercing, etc., however, stories should have an obvious spanking connection.  Stories which, in the view of the organizers, do not have a genuine spanking connection may be excluded.

CATEGORIES

  1. MINI-SAGA – To be submitted in this category stories should be 50 words or less (+5 words maximum).  Any pairings, any ages are acceptable.

  2. ADULT – This section will include stories of any sort of pairing(s) in which people engaged in spanking are all adults.  This can include Ageplay stories as well.

  3. SCI-FI/FANTASY – Any pairings, any ages are acceptable for this grouping.  To fit in this section stories should have elements of sci-fi or fantasy such as: time travel, aliens, space travel, elves, fairies, etc.  Horror stories with traditional fantasy characters like vampires, werewolves, witches, etc. would also fit here.

  4. MYSTERY – This is not actually a section for mystery stories, but for those stories that would be ruined by assigning them a specific subject, or for whom the authors would prefer not to state pairings and categories in advance.  This allows a bit of freedom for stories with surprise endings.
Authors should feel free to explain at the end of the story why they chose to put it in this section.  That explanation will not be counted in the word count, and it is not mandatory.

  5. EDGE – The definition of squick: v. to disturb, unsettle, make uneasy; to cause disgust or revulsion; to gross (someone) out; to freak (someone) out.  Also noun, something which causes disgust, revulsion, or uneasiness, or the disgust, revulsion, or uneasiness itself.  Also squick (someone) out.
Many stories on SSS will upset or squick some people, that is a given.  However, stories in the EDGE category are often stories that actually come close to, or cross, the squick line for the person who writes them, even though that story may also be personally exciting or stimulating as well.
To be acceptable for this section, stories should meet one of two criteria:
        1. The author of the story finds the story upsetting or squicky because of the content.
        2. The author feels the story could possibly be upsetting or squicky to the general reader population.
Stories in EDGE may contain an explanation of why the author found this story squicky, or why they feel others might.  The explanation will not count towards the word count and is not mandatory.

  6. CHILD – For stories in which the main plotline is about a child character being spanked, or giving the spanking.  Child shall be determined as a person under age 16.  However, if the person is over age 16 but is still being treated as a child (not as in ageplay, but by an authority figure) this would also be allowable for this category.  This would include schoolchild or parental spankings even of someone technically adult.  For instance: Mary is 23 but lives at home and is spanked by her mother for failing to do her housework.  Jim is 19 but is in a private school where he is caned for cheating on a test.
These stories could be entered in the child category or in the adult category, at the author's preference.

  7. HISTORICAL – This category is specifically for historical stories.  Any pairings, any ages are acceptable.

  8. FANFICTION – Write a story set in your favorite fictional world, about your favorite book, movie, or television show.  Some examples: A story about the X-Men, Lord of The Rings, or even a Rejuve story from Lurking Dragon's universe.  Fanfiction entries must note what fandom they are from, and can include any pertinent explanations, either before or after the actual story, at the author's preference.  It will not be considered part of the word count.

  9. PICTURE – We have chosen eight photographs, which are located here: socsexualityspanking.org/SSC/2006/pics/thumb.htm
They are not directly kink-related but we hope they may inspire some interesting spanking stories.  Choose one picture per story, and let your creativity flow!  Please put the title of the picture at the top of your story so people can see exactly what inspired you!  Any pairings, any ages.

Besides the top winner in each of these categories there will also be a number of special awards given, including: Most Diverse Writer – for those who enter stories in every category, or in the most categories.  We hope to encourage a greater variety of stories this year!

COPYRIGHT

Authors retain copyright to their works.  You may only submit stories for which you hold the copyright or have the owner's permission.  Entry grants a non-exclusive, no fee license for archiving on the SSS website and its successors.

If you wish to make use of any of these stories beyond fair use, please contact the author directly for permission.

HOW TO ENTER A STORY

Please read carefully!

  1. Write the story!  (That's the hard part.)  Follow the rules above.

  2. Mark the entry clearly with the category you've chosen to enter it in.  Please choose just one category.  Many entries would probably fit in several different categories.  Choose the one that you think it best fits.

  3. Post the story to soc.sexuality.spanking.  Make sure to:
    1. The subject of the e-mail should include:  SSC2006 {category} [title].  The body should include the [category] [title] [word count] [story].  Please include explanatory notes for stuff out of the ordinary such why it is edge or not-my-kink.  This may precede or follow the story so as not to spoil it.

    2. Post in plain text.  If you use a word processor with a proprietary format, like MS Word, save as plain text before you post.  Do remember that special characters, such as smart quotes, often display as strange things on other peoples' systems.  Please also avoid using attachments and avoid posting in HTML if you can.  Plain text will be easier for everyone to read.

    3. Read the information on the archive (below) and include any needed formatting instructions to the archivist.

    4. Post the story by e-mail by sending it to to:
SSC2006A (at) aol (dot) com & post (at) socsexualityspanking (dot) org.    Submit and post
One click should get you a double addressed e-mail composition window.  Do not use the doubly addressed e-mail for questions!

  4. Wait for responses to the entry.  With luck, lots of positive responses :-)  Oh, and get to work writing the next story.

ARCHIVING

The Archivist, Y. Lee Coyote, in order to have a uniform appearance of the entries will apply the following rules to all entries:

  1. Quotes (single and double) remain if they are dialogue.
  2. Words inside single quotes and/or underlines get converted to italics
  3. Words inside asterisks get converted to bold.
  4. Dashes are two hyphens.
  5. Ellipsis are "..." in the middle and "...." at the end of sentence.
  6. Double angle brackets will be converted to guillemets (those neat little double angles used in French and Russian).
  7. Paragraphs are indicated with double space rather than indents as that is the natural way in HTML.
  8. Comments may either precede the title or follow the story end.
  9. The author's name will be shown while the e-mail will be hidden although clickable if Javascript is allowed on the reader's computer.  It also appears in the meta information in the header and thus will be available to search engines.
  10. The name for copyright notice will be the 'nick' if there is one.

Instructions to the Archivist may be in the post and will be honored as best as possible.

Changes/corrections to archive may be requested by e-mail to Y. Lee Coyote.  Please indicate the entry number, the paragraph number, the 'current' and the 'replacement'.  Don't send the entire post as I won't be able to find the change.
