New Shoes (Object Fetish, 273 words)

by Emily

I bought a pair of new shoes today. The kind of shoes no one who knows me would ever expect me to own. Impractical, uncomfortable, spike-heel, strappy shoes that say "fuck me." They're not for going out, not remotely. They're for staying in.

I tried on lots of different pairs in the store. Pulled up my jeans to see how they looked on my feet, imagined how they would lift my ass and arch my back as my husband bent me over. Felt myself getting hotter and hotter with every pair.

Driving home with them next to me on the seat, I couldn't resist pulling one out of the bag and looking at it with a secret smile. I'll go home, get dinner started. Then I'll put on the short black dress, the one with the zipper down the front, the one that is just a little too indecent to actually wear dancing. Nothing underneath but a corset because I know how he loves corsets. And of course the shoes.

I wonder, will he chuckle knowingly when he comes through the door? Will he casually tease me -- slap my ass or twist a nipple -- on his way upstairs to change out of his work clothes? Will he bend me over the couch maybe, smack me with his doubled-over belt as I squirm, back arched and legs apart, wearing my slutty shoes? Will his belt wrap around my ass to sting my pussy? Will he make me beg, calling me his slut and his whore as I kneel before him, as I take his cock into my mouth?

God, I hope so.

This was a very hot, tight little story, steaming with lust and promise.  It packed a powerful punch in under 300 words and was very tightly-written an used words evocatively and purposely.  Nothing was wasted in this story and that tightness made it even hotter.

Obviously written with a great deal of heat and passion on the part of the author; this feels very much like a blog post of an actual event. I'm a little torn about that method, actually.  On one hand it plunks me straight into the speaker's mind, which is a very compelling tactic, but on the other hand, it doesn't feel like as much like a story, more like a sequence of feelings.

I suspect one of the hardest things in the world to do is to convey to someone who doesn't share it exactly why a fetish object has the power it does for us. The attraction is somewhere just beyond our ability to explain, even to ourselves.

Well as this little piece works - though it always seems a shame when the word limit is so low to not use all of them - and it has a very nicely charged progression from the simple act of purchasing the shoes to the, um, *consummation* of that act, I can't help feeling that the shoes are used here as a way into the story, but are then mostly discarded. What I'd love to see more of is an attempt - even if it maybe can't fully succeed - to get at the heart of the fetish item itself as an object. What is it specifically about the object that is most important? Is there a perfect example? What might make an apparently similar object not have the same power?

This story is short, sweet, and very hot.  I hate uncomfortable shoes, but New Shoes was enough to make me crave a pair... at least for a moment or two.  I especially liked the line "They're not for going out, not remotely.  They're for staying in."  Nicely done.
