The Summer Short Story contest is a yearly tradition at the Soc.Sexuality.Spanking newsgroup. The contest began as a way to encourage story writing during the often quiet summer months. This year's short story contest began on June 1st 2008 and ended on August 31st.
Categories:
This year, in exchange for a wider range of categories, we'll have three word-count limits. The 2,000 and 1,000 word-count limits are categories themselves.
2,000 words: A story should not exceed 2,000 words. Each author may submit only one for the contest (NOT one for each category).
1,000 words: A story should not exceed 1,000 words. Each author may submit only two for the contest (NOT two for each category).
All other stories will be limited to 500 words.

Due to repeated requests, and our reluctance to turn away fine stories,
we've taken away the limit of number of entries in the 500-word
categories.
Child - one or more major characters is a child under 12 years old
Coming of Age - one or more major characters is 12 to 18 years old
Best Collaboration - the story is the work of two or more authors.

Science Fiction/Fantasy
Edge fiction
Parody/tribute (to include Fanfic)
M/M or F/F
Real Life (true stories)
First/last lines: Use one of these lines as either the first or the last line of a story
- "It was a pleasure to burn." (from Ray Bradbury)
- "The wind was a torrent of darkness." (from Alfred Noyes)
- "Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel
Aureliano Buendía was to remember that distant afternoon when

Stories may be less than 500 words but cannot exceed 500 words (titles and disclaimers will be excluded from the word count).
These short-story, 500-word categories were common fare in past years' Short Story Contests and for the most part are self-explanatory, but please email if you have questions.
I'd like authors to have all possible leeway, so if you want to submit an MM story in every category, except FF - that's great. Likewise if you want to submit a story in every category, except Adult, in which a major character is a child - go for it.
Every story submitted must be a new story - not a repost.
Each entry must have something to do with spanking.This year's Dictator is Winks, she is known in spanking circles at Irishwinks, or Shwinks. She is the dictator this year, because she said so, and that's that!

Winks has wisely chosen two helpers whom she calls whirlwinds. We like to think of ourselves as simply hyperactive.
Domino and Zprymantis are going to be helping with the technical aspects, including the archiving of stories, and getting the great mysteries of the internet to do their bidding. They also will be helping with anything Winks demands, including keeping her laughing, reminding her that she is in charge, and having her take naps in the afternoon.

When submitting a story to the SSC 2008 you are agreeing that your story will be displayed on this website. The archivists will make every effort to keep your story as submitted and will display the authors name and email address (munged to prevent harvesting) along with the Reader's reviews. Please feel free to contact the submission address with any concerns or questions.
Copyright to the story will remain with the author, and reposting or distributing any stories contained on this website is not allowed except with the express permission of the author. At some point, this archive will be moved to the soc.sexuality.spanking newsgroup website and will be archived there. At such time an auto-forwarder will make all hits for ssc2008.smilingwithteeth.com forward to the new archive location.
