Homer frequently thought about what his father told him each and every time that he was spanked. After the lecture, which Homer quicky forgot about, his father told him to remove his pants and underpants. Despite the inherent embarrassment of being spanked, especially on his bare rump, there were never any witnesses. "Your spankings are not appropriate entertainment and especially not for your little sister." Homer was most grateful for this consideration, When he heard "Over my lap, lad." he was expected to properly position himself immediately. Then he would get spanked. The hardness and duration varied with the misdeed but he was expected to hold back his tears for a while. Now that Homer was almost twelve his father used a short strap rather than just his hand.
Homer did not like getting spanked in the least for besides hurting it was undignified. Several of his friends did not get spanked for their crimes but suffered various other unpleasantnesses such as grounding, loss of allowance and even deactivation of electronic essentials. Homer pondered this far more diligently than the basics of algebra and the intricate incestuous relationships of European royalty. He also realized that being perfect and never being spanked was far too difficult a state to achieve.
Suddenly the light dawned and he realized that all he had to do was to obey his father. He carefully planed what he should say.
The next time his father told him to remove his pants and underpants he spoke up. "Father, I have a question." To his credit, his father put the strap aside and nodded to indicate that Homer might continue. "Sometimes you tell me to do contradictory things; surely when you do that I can only obey you by doing one."
Mr. Hastings realized that his son was after something. He was pleased that he had worked out something and to bring it up for it, particularly at this most vulnerable time when he was about to be spanked, indicated that he was growing up.
"Your instructions about my getting spanking have a contradiction." Homer was holding the card that he had gotten several years before outlining the spanking protocol. "You say that I am to 'take my spanking like a man' yet a man does not go over his father's lap like a little boy. A man just bends over for his spanking." With this, Homer Horace Hastings stepped to his desk, bent over grasping the far side and said: "I'm ready for my spanking, Father." and waited.
Mr. Hastings picked up the strap and stepped over to his growing up son. "Very good, Homer." and proceeded to give him eight hard strokes. "That's it, son. You did take it like a man. I'm proud of you for that."
"Thank you, Father." Homer rubbed his sore bottom as his father left. Homer knew that the spanking was harder, but he felt much more grown up. He decided that using the Sportscreme(r) would be most unmanly.

This story had some great spanking arrangement, location, and implement details that I enjoyed. I also loved the line that read "...suffered various other unpleasantness's such as grounding, loss of allowance and even deactivation of electronic essentials." I thought that was amusingly put.
There were a few spelling errors that I'd prefer not to have encountered. Also, the dialogue between the father and son seemed a bit too formal to be realistic. This may have been appropriate if the story was set in an earlier time period, but I didn't see that indicated anywhere in the text.
I enjoyed the descriptions of the boy's thought processes in regards to his punishment. The resolution to the tale was great in it's compromise. The boy didn't get what he wanted because he was still spanked, but at least he was able to exercise some control by convincing his father to spank him "like a man."

"Take it Like a Man" is all about ritual and respect. I like the way the father and son are introduced, and the way each character wants to do the right thing according to his own lights. Very nice.

This story has a good premise, is well thought out and is well written. But for some reason the story comes across as rather sterile. It lacks emotion.
I would rate this story as a very good try, and would like to read more by this author.
