Coming of Age

The Hiding Place

Alex Birch

He tried to bury himself in the hay, but the covering was too thin and provided partial cover at best. He completed the folding of his parachute and stashed it away in the hay as best he could before snuggling down for the night. Where the hell was Antoine?  Somehow the rendezvous had been screwed but it was too late now. He would have to wait until morning and hope someone made contact. He lay down in the hay, then stiffened as the barn door opened slowly. Oh Christ!  His hand went to the knife at his waist.

It was a pretty young girl, maybe fifteen or sixteen, and his eyes took in her shapely figure. Oh God, surely he wouldn't have to kill a kid? The she turned and her eyes met his. She gasped and backed away, her mouth open. For a second or two the world stopped as he wondered if she would scream. "Please?" he said pathetically, his finger to his lips. To his amazement, she came towards him, eyes wide. "English pilot?" she said in clear, but halting, English. "Yes," he replied, "and I need help. Are you going to give me away?"

"No, monsieur" she replied indignantly," but my father must not find you. He will tell police. But I hate the Germans. I get you food. Papa is strict. I come to meet my boyfriend in here for -" she blushed, and her face said it all " - but Papa will kill me if he finds me here."

Just then a harsh male voice outside growled "Dominique, ou est tu?" and she gasped. Hastily she gathered hay from the other side of the barn and covered him as best she could before the barn door opened and a large man in his forties entered. He was clearly angry as he stared at his daughter caught like a rabbit in headlights. "Ou est Pierre?" he shouted and she pointed to the door. Snorting down his nose, the big man walked to the wall of the barn and picked up a small stepladder. The girl gasped as the man seized her hair, dragged her to the stepladder and threw her over it, face down.

To the watching pilot's astonishment, he lifted her dress and underskirt, she wore no underpants, and proceeded to bring his heavy hand down on the girl's bottom as she squealed and wept.  To his shame, the young pilot felt a tightness in his trousers as the girl wriggled and kicked her legs, showing all her feminine delights. Her bottom was firm and shapely and the pilot desperately wished she was older.

The spanking was rapid and intense, after which the big man turned and left the barn. When they were alone once more Dominique rubbed her bottom and turned her tear stained face to his.  Through the shame and embarrassment, he was amazed to see excitement on her face too.

She winked "Later, monsieur, I bring food later," she said, and smiled.

This story could easily have been entered in the "Historical" category, but it's up to the author's discretion which category to use when more than one could apply.

The teenaged girl (Dominique) in this narrative was quite brave, not just literally risking her derriere (and getting it paternally smacked) to avoid betraying the hiding man but also figuratively risking it in a much more serious manner--the German occupiers would almost certainly do much more than spank her for hiding an Allied agent or pilot.

Even with the original plan screwed up and himself in serious jeopardy, the hidden watcher probably enjoyed observing the girl's chastisement--even while sympathizing with his young, pretty benefactor--just as she at some level enjoyed receiving it. In wartime, with death always looming, one takes one's momentary pleasures whenever possible.

I found this story credible within its wartime context, although the Allied character seemed like an agent intentionally parachuted into occupied France (he was fruitlessly looking for an assigned contact) at the beginning of the narrative but then was later described as a pilot--who would've presumably been shot down and forced to bail out over enemy-held territory. Either description of his role would work for the story line, but apparently changing from one to the other confused me somewhat.

However, the story still works overall as an unexpected spanking interlude that momentarily entranced the viewer even while he was facing a desperate, life-threatening situation.

This is a slick story, and I liked it quite a bit.

The first couple of sentences give me fits (he buries himself before he stashes the chute and then snuggling down?) but after that the story is smooth and well rounded.  We get great thoughts from the pilot that reveal a lot about him: not wanting to kill a child, excitement at the spanking, wishing she was older.  I love that kind of character development in a 500 word story.  We also know something about Dominique, though less since we don't have her thoughts, particular her excitement as conveyed to the pilot.

My only criticism with the story is the inclusion of Pierre.  We don't see this boy, we just know he exists and I think that he's unnecessary to the story.  Dominique could have been out in the barn to get a spanking for any number of reasons.  If this were a longer tale, we could have an interesting relationship between pilot, Pierre, and Dominique, but given the format, that's not possible.  As it is, the existence of Pierre just gets in the way.

Beyond that gripe, this is a nice story that fits the parameters of the contest well.  It's quick, tight, and hot.  Nicely done.

I love history in general add a touch of my own idea of romance and I am a happy girl this story had both of these as well as being very well written and easy to read even with the few words being done in another tongue I was still able to get the basics down of the meaning and of course some things transcend all languages... A daughter caught out in the barn by her father when she's not supposed to be and a boyfriend that he doesn't approve of would be one of those... add a mysterious stranger to the mix and some idiological teen feelings that usually go directly against their parents wishes just for the sake of doing so and you have a very dreamy romantic piece. I loved it!
